The early days of the Army's Automatic Data Processing efforts.
February 1968
In February 1968, I served as the Chief, Personnel Services Division (PSD), in the AG Section of Headquarters, Americal Division (23rd Infantry), Chu Lai, Vietnam. As such, I was required to travel to Long Binh, Vietnam, to attend a 5-day "Senior Army Executive Automatic Data Processing Orientation Course." This orientation preceded the Army's schedule to begin shipping data processing equipment to selected units in country.
In my book "We Wrote Letters Then," published in 2015 (Copyright WalkerMiskell Publishing, Beacon NY), there are letters associated with my Long Binh trip, which as it happened, took place during the TET Offensive of 1968.
You can read those letters by clicking the link HERE. And, attached below is my certificate of attendance at the course.
I hope you enjoy this slice of AG Corps history back in 1968.
With best regards,
MAJ (Ret) Bill Walker
